Happy Mothers' Day

Written by ‘Debayo Coker

You are beyond equation.

Yes, I know syllogism,

“Principal multiply by rate multiply by time, divided by hundred”

Yes, simple compound interest,

You know it too. You do.

And, you will say NO.

“Just pay your tithe”

I will only do that after the interest.

Gracious goodness,

I pawned my sweat

And I fawned home

Into your warmth.

Then you smiled,

And the room became bright again.

Your laughter rang to the ends of the earth.

“I just knew the investment wasn’t what you should do”.

How can you tell?

“I just knew it.”

How possible?

“I can’t explain.

I just knew it”

Through her tears, she smiles at her children and says,

Everything will be fine, ok!

She takes down the metal trunk box

Fold after fold of wrappers,

At the very bottom, she picks up,

Her most treasured jewelry.

Off she goes,

With every strength in her bone

And all the love the world could hold

To put an end to her family's woes.

Who else would go to bed hungry,

With smiles rather than be angry?

Who else would not have just one change of cloth,

but put a hundred on her family's back.

Through her tears she smiles and says,

Everything is fine, you see!

Mother, no one can place a value on you,

Your worth can not be calculated, it is true.

I will never be able to match your love,

Your sacrifice is immense!

I do not believe you start with just 7 ribs…

I do not think so.
